“Which is the song that makes you cry?”, I was asked a couple of days ago.
I replied with a silly grin, thought for a long time and said I'd forgotten which song can do that to me. “The tears have all dried up!” I lamely justified but that topic ended with the two of us knowing I hadn't spoken enough.
There is more than one song that makes me cry. And I cry like some string in my heart stretched out too tight to breathe and then broke with the most painful ache I've ever felt.
But yes, I've pushed some of those songs far, far down. It's probably a defense mechanism, but as it happens in such cases, instead of pushing them out, one pushes them deeper and stronger in.
I suppose not many people will identify with this, but I sometimes don't look at beautiful sunsets on the beach or clear, starry night skies because my soul finds it hard to contain such beauty. It's too painfully beautiful.
I don't need to have a reason to cry about any song. It just makes me cry....and here are two...

Can you help me remember how to smile
Make it somehow all seem worthwhile
How on earth did I get so jaded
Life's mystery seems so faded

I can go where no one else can go
I know what no one else knows
Here I am just drownin' in the rain
With a ticket for a runaway train

Everything is cut and dry
Day and night, earth and sky
Somehow I just don't believe it

Runaway train never going back
Wrong way on a one way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here no there

I fell in love with you watching Casablanca
Back row of the drive in show in the flickering light
Popcorn and cokes beneath the stars became champagne and caviar
Making love on a long hot summers night

I thought you fell in love with me watching Casablanca
Holding hands 'neath the paddle fans in Rick's Candle lit cafe
Hiding in the shadows from the spies.
Moroccan moonlight in your eyes
Making magic at the movies in my old chevrolet

I guess there're many broken hearts in Casablanca
You know I've never really been there. so, I don't know
I guess our love story will never be seen on the big wide silver screen
But it hurt just as bad when I had to watch you go

Oh! A kiss is still a kiss in Casablanca
But a kiss is not a kiss without your sigh
Please come back to me in Casablanca
I love you more and more each day as time goes by...
